2019 Youth Beekeepers Announced

The Dodge-Jefferson County Beekeepers Association is pleased to sponsor Mikayla Justmann and Brock Roy as the Youth in Beekeeping recipients for 2019. Each youth is sponsored with equipment, hive components, and live bees to install and care for one hive during the 2019 beekeeping season. They are assigned mentors to assist them with their beekeeping experience. The youth were introduced at the April 14th meeting. Mikayla Justmann, daughter of Jim and Lisa Justmann of Juneau, is a 7th grader at Dodgeland Middle School and a member of the River Oaks 4-H Club. Mikayla’s goal is to learn as much as she can about honey bees and keep them alive through next year. Brock Roy, son of Jason & Renee Roy of Juneau is an 11th grader at Dodgeland High School and a member of Dodgeland FFA. Brock recognizes the importance of honey bees as pollinators in the environment and his primary goal is to produce a decent crop of honey. The applicants were selected by the Dodge-Jefferson Co. Beekeepers Association as a part of the group’s promotion and educational initiatives for youth interested in beekeeping. Capital Bee Supply of Columbus is an additional sponsor of the Youth in Beekeeping program. This is the Association’s fifth year of sponsoring youth beekeeping across Dodge and Jefferson counties.
