The Dodge/Jefferson County Beekeepers Association will sponsor Samantha George and Zander Lang as the Youth in Beekeeping recipients for 2018. Each youth will receive their own colony of bees to care for during the beekeeping season. They are assigned mentors to assist them with their beekeeping experience and were introduced to club members on April 8. Samantha George, daughter of Joan George of rural Beaver Dam, is a student at Beaver Dam Middle School. She is interested in learning more about how to care for honeybees and be a good beekeeper. Zander Lang, son of Jeremy and Karen Lang of Hustisford, is an 8th grader at Hustisford Jr/Sr High School. Zander is eager to learn about the honeybee’s role in agriculture and to be successful in caring for his own hive. The applicants were selected by the Dodge/Jefferson Co. Beekeepers Association as a part of the group’s promotion and educational initiatives for youth interested in beekeeping. Dadant’s of Watertown and Capital Bee Supply of Columbus are additional sponsors of the Youth in Beekeeping program.
