On Feb11, 2012 the DJCBA joined the Dodge County 4H for their Family Learning Day program. Russ Haecker, Dean Lapp, Jim Smaglick, Deloris Casperson and Jackie Tracy gave an informative presentation of the benefits of beekeeping and the need for more beekeepers in our area. They were able to show the inner workings of the hive and basic processes of care to a group of about 15-20 youth and adults and answer many questions. The highlight of the program for many participants was the tasting of different types of honey. Most people are unaware that there are unique flavors to be found from our local small beekeepers.
This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the beekeeping culture in our younger generation. Deloris is a part of the 4H bee keeping project and showed very well at fair last year thanks to the support she received from the DJCBA.
This is a very small group of kids needing the support of mentor beekeepers found in our local club.
