Entries for the Baking with Honey Contest at the Dodge County Fair were selected August 17. The program was sponsored by the Dodge/Jefferson Beekeeping Association. There were 30 entries in this first ever contest.
- In Open Class first place of $25 went to Linda Mertz of Pardeeville for a rolled cookie with pecans recipe.
- Nancy Mertz of Beaver Dam placed second in Open Class for $15 with a Honey Bar.
- Christel Sparks of Cambria placed third for $10 with a Drop Sugar Cookie substituting honey for sugar.
- In the Junior Fair category, Sydney Moore of Astico Perseverance 4-H won first place with Baklava.
- Evan Finger of Juneau Victorians 4-H place second with Honey Monster Cookies.
- Abby Schulz of Herman Hornets placed third with Peanut Butter Bars.
- Fourth place went to Brittany Helms of Lebanon Luckies 4-H Club with Honey Bars.
- Fifth place to Terra Hundt with Honey Cookies, also of Lebanon Luckies 4-H Club.
All entries were required to use honey from area bee-keepers*. The Dodge/Jefferson Beekeepers plan to continue this fair category again next year.
*Honey producers listed on the 4-H recipe cards were Juneau Victorians 4-H Club, Stone Valley Apiaries, Wally Nass, Ryan Stern and Jeanne Malterer.
